Ghirardelli Chocolate Commercial Song

Malcolm X

After seven months of silence at the blog again, simply by quoting a speech given more than 40 years ago by Malcolm X, any comment is of course welcome.

The ballot or the bullet

'[...] No, I'm not American. I am one of twenty-two million black-skinned men who are victims of Americanism, one of twenty-two million victims of democracy, which is nothing but hypocrisy in disguise. I do not come here to speak as an American, a patriot, not someone who salutes the flag or pull it out at every opportunity, no! I speak as a victim of the American system, see America through the eyes the victim and I can not see any American dream. What I see is an American nightmare. [...] Is now the choice between the ballot or the bullet. The ballot or the bullet, I repeat. If you are afraid of using this expression, well tornatevene in the country, in the cotton field, or in some dark alley in the slums. [...] It is the government, the United States government, responsible for the oppression, exploitation and degradation of black people in this country. [...] There is a new way of approaching problems that is gaining momentum, a new way of thinking and a new strategy. This month will be the Molotov cocktails, hand grenades next and the next a few else. There will be, or boards or guns, or freedom or death. The only difference, however, between this and the other death is to be mutual. [...] Normally I do not have to do with important people, but only with everyday people. I think we can put together many of these people, and wipe out so many important people. Those have nothing to lose and nothing to gain and I will say at once that to tango it takes two and when one moves the other is forced to move. [...] It is right to try to secure civil rights if they mean equality of opportunity because we are not trying to do is collect the interest our investment. Our fathers and our mothers in this country have invested their sweat and their blood [...] This is our investment, our contribution, our blood, not only because we gave them our free labor, but also the our blood. Whenever the white man called the country to war, we were the first to wear the uniform and die on every battlefield. Our sacrifice was greater than those made by those who now enjoys a privileged position in America. Our contribution was larger, but in return we got less than anyone. [...] Understand that when you want to get what belongs to you, whoever deprives you of that right is a criminal. When you want to get what is yours, you are fully entitled to demand it and try to deprive anyone who breaks the law and is a criminal. This principle was clearly stated in the Supreme Court decision declaring segregation illegal. This means that it is a behavior contrary to law, the segregationist is breaking the law and is therefore a criminal. There is no other way to describe it and when you demonstrate against segregation, you are on the side of the law and the Supreme Court is with you.

Now, those who oppose you when you want to enforce the law? The police, with his dogs and his clubs. When you show against segregation, whether it be schools, residential areas or anything else, you have the law on your side and those who oppose it are not the most, but rather the violation and thus no longer an agent. [...] If you are not able to act with firmness, your children grow up "ashamed" of you: if you do not take more resolute action. This is not to say that you have to be violent, but at the same time that you should never be nonviolent unless you encounter someone behaving peacefully. I am not violent with those who are with me, but when someone uses violence towards me, then it is as if impazzissi and are no longer responsible for my actions. [...] When you know not to break the law, to fight for your legal and moral rights, in justice, then die to know what you believe. But do not die alone, go to your death is reciprocal. This is what is meant by equality. An eye for eye, tooth for tooth. [...] The world must know that this company's hands drip with blood. Let the world know how great is his hypocrisy. The choice is thus one of the ballot or the bullet. America must know that the only alternative is between the ballot or the bullet. "
